California freeway delays blamed on inflation and law changes
The Reagan administration announced 150 million dollars of planned California freeway projects will be delayed to 1973 74 and possibly beyond. State Public Works Director James A Moe cited inflation law changes and federal impoundment of interstate funds plus diversions of highway taxes as the reason for postponements across Los Angeles Orange and San Diego counties and for the state's 1 billion budget.

In January 1970 at Soledad State Prison brothers Drumgo, Clutchette and George Jackson faced murder charges in the death of Correctional Officer John V. Mills after a yard brawl. Mills, 26, was beaten and thrown from a railing three days after a prior inmate clash. Jackson died last August in an alleged escape attempt at San Quentin. The six prisoners face charges in the guards’ deaths inside the maximum security center. the courtroom heard pleas of innocence from the Soledad prisoners as deliberations continued under heavy protection while spectators cheered the verdict for some defendants.

Inmates Seized From Santa Clara Jail During Angela Davis Trial
Sheriff deputies rescued two hostages unharmed after inmates seized them 100 yards from the Angela Davis trial site. John Eddie Brown 26 was identified among the convicts held for kidnapping and conspiracy. Reward offered for capture of Redwood Valley dog sniper
Mrs. Arlene Steely offers a 50 dollar reward after a shooter wounded nine of her six dogs since August. The incidents, using a high powered air gun or .22 rifle, occurred inside the fenced Oak Grove Drive property in Redwood Valley. Dogs were wounded near the residence as shots rang out from outside the home.
