Giants Face Early Decisions on McCovey Knee and First Base

In Orlando Willie McCovey's sore knee clouds a possible season opening at first base as manager Herman Franks weighs whether he can play regularly or must limit him to pinch hitting. Harvey or Cap Peterson may open at first if McCovey cannot fully recover within the next week. The Giants also debuted new autacof pitchers while Willingham and other young players logged time. Koufax struggled as Milwaukee toppled the Dodgers 6-1.

Mets Turn In No Hitter Show With Exhibition Victory

The New York Mets, known for comedy on the field, edged the Pirates 6-0 in St. Petersburg. Pitchers Kroll and Richardson starred, with Kroll opening six innings and fanning five, despite bases loaded in the first. Richardson worked three innings with four strikeouts, marking the first win in any Mets game.

Record Entries For Mat Tourney In Laramie 1965

ARAMIE Wyo. Two teams arrived in Laramie to prepare for the 1965 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Minnesota and Southern Illinois were first to check in for the 72-team field. Final entry list reached a high of 274 wrestlers from 26 states. UW head coach Everett Lantz expected more teams to arrive as time and registration began Wednesday. Competition starts Thursday afternoon in the fieldhouse with six mats set for the first five sessions.

Chargers Set Date For Portland Debut

Portland will host its first AFL action August 28 as San Diego meets Oakland in an exhibition game. The announcement also notes that NFL teams the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys will play an exhibition on August 21.

San Francisco and Capitol Federal of Denver moved into tonight's AAU tournament semifinals as Cinderella clubs. San Francisco upset the Oilers 80 to 67 led by Oliver Johnson while Capitol beat May Bididéts 95-88. Gonyett topped Hesedreh 77-67 and All-Stars defeated Mariof-Day.

Rip owner Blizs beth leads two co favorites at Aintree

London UPI reports The Rip owned by Queen Mother's Blizs beth is among the two co favorites for Saturday's Grand National at Aintree, tied with Scotland's Freddie. The event, part of the Irish Sweepstakes, draws about 100000 spectators and is watched by roughly 300 million in Europe. The course features 320 fences over 5280 feet.

Potter Valley Girls win at Redwood Valley meet in late season play

Potter Valley defeated Reliwood Valley and lost to Porolita in the semi final after a full day of competition at Redwood Valley. Pomolite's girls topped Redwood Valley to claim the championship, a title Redwood had won in 1964 after Pomolite's 1963 victory. Outstanding players included Gail Way, Linda Gassells, Sharyl Pardini, Robin Curtis, Diane Toler, Linda Fenter, Debbie Richardson of Pomolite. Holly Harding and Diane Burris of Potter Valley. The Boston Red Sox will resume spring training in Florida in 1966 after a six year absence. The team plans to train in the Sunshine State to prepare for the upcoming season.

Trackmen Host Panthers In Dual Meet At Ukiah High

Ukiah high school hosts Santa Rosa in a dual meet featuring Varsity and lightweight track teams. Coaches Jack Emigh and Everett Neil have improved the surface and pits, aiming for fast times on the slick track after two meets this season.
