Calpella man, 36, under arrest in bizarre triangle stabbing
A 36 year old Calpella man was charged with murder for stabbing and shooting Robert Broverman in a dispute involving the suspect’s wife at the Gunton residence. Broverman, 40, died after being stabbed in the chest and back and shot in the head with a .410 shotgun. Gunton’s son and two companions, all from San Jose, were arrested later for burglary and possession of concealed weapons after breaking into the Gunton home nine hours after the homicide. Broverman had earlier handcuffed the suspect’s wife and driven her to her home. The case marks the fifth homicide in 1976, and the fourth in 30 days.

Three weekend accidents injure five on Mendocino roads
Five people were hurt in three weekend crashes on Mendocino County highways. A 18 year old Patricia Daugherty and 21 year old Ann Daugherty from Menlo Park were severely injured Sunday on Highway 101 near the Sonoma County line when a passing vehicle forced a collision with Kenneth Odell’s trailer and car. Wallace German Sr. and Ethel German sustained moderate injuries in a two car crash south of Ukiah when Judith Falconer’s car attempted to pass. Saturday two drivers, Gene Peralta and Thomas Nelson, were treated after a Talmage Road two car mishap where DeTurbeville’s car was struck broadside and a power pole was hit.

In Beirut Christians recaptured the Holiday Inn after a pre dawn counteroffensive by Phalangist militiamen posing as guerrillas. Leftist gunmen disputed the takeover and said infiltrators from the Palestine Armed Struggle Command caused the confusion. The battle, one of the bloodiest days of Lebanon's 11 month civil war, left dozens dead and hundreds wounded as rebels seized the hotel district and threatened the capital.
