From 9 30 until noon a presentation titled The Right Tool for the Right Job features Dr Richard B Lewis Dr Jerrold Kemp and Dr Richard Mitchell of San Jose State College. Since 1959 the team has toured the United States reaching about 30000 people with demonstrations on media of communication and classroom instructional needs.
The Mobile Blood Bank will be in Ukiah Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial hall on Seminary at Oak to receive replacement donations. Women of the Ukiah Soroptimist Club assist with setup and clerking. A 14 pint replacement is needed for Marvin Gibson of Ukiah, with several others needing two to four pints each. Donors receive fruit juice or coffee and a breakfast roll after donating, and are advised not to eat for four hours beforehand.
Washington UPI reports Don Silverthorne, former president of the closed San Francisco Law Honavleta National Bank, anxious to testify before a Senate investigation into the bank's failure. He promised to discuss about 100 matters, some startling, as he awaits a chance to appear.
Washington reporting on President Johnson's voting rights bill pitting Republicans who say it goes too far against those who argue it does not go far enough. Attorney General Katzenbach defends the measure as broadly extending protections while addressing disputed coverage rules. The plan would eliminate literacy tests, allow federal registrars, and extend federal oversight to Alabama Mississippi Georgia Louisiana and possibly South Carolina and Virginia with potential local applicability elsewhere.
H Clair Holliday announced his candidacy noting benefits for area children through a unified district ensuring education continuity. Born in Talmage, he attended local schools, lives there with wife Beth and two children, engages in fruit ranching, and enjoys hunting and fishing. He previously served on the school board during the Riv er Union era.
The U.S. State Department said in Washington that Indonesia has given written assurances to stop harassment of American officials in Jakarta after a U.S. protest. Ambassador Howard P. Jones in Jakarta had protested against the cutting off electricity and gas to residents of several American officials.
Funeral services are pending at Cain's Mortuary for Robert Ashworth Barcley 41 of Fort Bragg who died by self harm early Thursday morning by inhaling auto exhaust. His body was found in his sealed car near his workshop. he reportedly left no note. Survived by widow Lois Jeanne Barcley.
Twelve year old Jeffrey Famiano of La Puente California told his parents he felt nauseous and exhausted after nibbling a weed from a school yard used for a St Patrick's Day decoration. He was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital where he was observed overnight after stomach pumping. A botanist examined the weed and deputies urged removal from yards and caution to students. Later he confessed the tale was blarney and that he had just been nibbling at breting.
The Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov performed impressive somersaults outside Voskhod-2 while U.S. astronauts Grissom and Young prepared for a restrained three orbit flight. The United States, planning no hatches opening or TV broadcast, aims for a quiet landing after about five hours in orbit.
Sheri Mathias of Boonville Anderson Valley high school student won the Lions Club Student Speakers contest elimination in Region 2. Ca ron Mae Christiansen of Laytonville was the other contestant. Howard Tuttle presented the zone winners. Sheri will go to Scotia on April 16 for the sub region run off.
UPI report that U.S. District Judge Frank M. Johnson refused Gov. Wallace's request for a stay of the Selma to Montgomery freedom march. Johnson had already enjoined state officials from interfering as the 40 mile, five day trek plans to begin Sunday with National Guard units likely providing most protection.
Alma Maddux reports a tractor jackknifed while towing a sled loaded with fence rails, pinning the operator three miles from Philo. Rooks, born December 3, 1905 in Missouri, had lived in the area eight years. Survivors include a sister in North Dakota and a sister-in-law in Boonville. services Sunday at 2 p.m. at Eversole Mortuary with burial in Philo Cemetery.
The Commerce Department reports a 7 percent increase in urban employment. October payrolls rose to 1,817,000 workers from 1,782,000 in October 1963, reflecting broader city job gains.
Two people were out as authorities reviewed injuries from a confrontation. Charges were pending against Jackson while officials waited to determine the full extent of Tim ming injuries, according to Assistant Police Chief Raymond Krause.
