Lake County Kidnaping and Robbery Reported in Early Morning Incident

Kathleen Cain 24 of Lucerne was kidnapped and assaulted during an alleged rape attempt after leaving a bar in Upper Lake. The suspect, described as a Mexican man in his 20s, forced her to drive, disrobed her, and blindfolded her before fleeing in her 1962 Corvair with two cases of beer and $57 taken. Lake and Mendocino County authorities pursued but the suspect remained at large as of reporting.

Butchers Slash Prices Across States to Lift Slumping Beef Sales

Butchers from California to Maine have cut meat prices by 10 to 20 percent in the past month to spur demand during a beef surplus and prevent cattlemen from going broke. The cuts are expected to be temporary, with prices rising again after 60 to 90 days.
