Moscone amendment approved narrow California voting age bill
The Senate narrowly approved a Moscone proposed constitutional amendment to lower the voting age to 18 for all elections and sent it to the Assembly. The measure would enfranchise 18 to 20 year olds, removing literacy tests and reducing residency rules, with voter ratification likely at the June 1972 primary. Governor Reagan has signaled openness but previously opposed the change.
