Reagan signs welfare bills to save students in age change
Gov Ronald Reagan signed emergency legislation to protect about 29 000 AFDC recipients aged 18 through 20 from welfare loss due to California's age of majority act raising legal adulthood to 18. The measures also avert a 34 million revenue loss for community colleges and keep eligibility for disabled or employed students pursuing education.

Supervisors Oppose Behr Wild Rivers Bill Endorse Collier Plan
The board voted unanimously to oppose State Sen. Peter Behr’s Wild Rivers bill and endorsed Sen. Randolph Collier’s similar measure. They noted a 25 year Eel River moratorium would reverse earlier support for the English Ridge dam plan, while Collier’s bill would fund study and expand water and recreation benefits without naming the Eel. Letters opposing Behr were read, while Ukiah Rod and Gun Club backed Behr.
