Ukiah planning commission approved final site plans for the Ukiah General Hospital including landscaping and parking. The plan adjusts for new earthquake standards, adds a 15 foot access for emergency vehicles, two on site hydrants, and tracks tree removals and fencing.
The North Coast campaign scene tightens as Democrat Barry Keene and Republican Don Peterson announce bids for the 2nd District Assembly seat, with Jon Boscovich filing for the 8th District Assembly and Pat Hanratty launching a late Democratic run for Congress amid energy and economic concerns. Barbara A. Richter a Humboldt County businesswoman restaurant owner announces her bid for the Republican nomination against incumbent Don Clausen. The Arcata resident cites Clausen as unresponsive and controlled by big money interests while highlighting her conservation activism and prior media work.
Georgia-Pacific Corp unveils a 1974 expansion totaling about 275 million dollars to add chemical capacity and lumber plywood and other building products. Projects include a resin plant near Ukiah and formaldehyde plant planning with twelve new distribution centers and expanded timberlands.
Ukiah clinched a spot in Saturday night Top of the Bay finals by routing Del Norte 100 to 69 in the first night action at Sonoma State College. Tickets are limited to 3200, with $2 adults and 75 cent students here, and 2 dollars at the door in Rohnert Park if available.
