Teacher injured in lab blast at Ukiahi school

Dick Van Wyhe, a Ukiahi High chemistry math and science teacher since 1964, suffered severe hand and eye injuries when a beaker exploded while he was cleaning up after a Friday class. Five arrested for drunk driving over weekend

Law enforcement officers jailed five drunk driving suspects over the weekend. Angus McNeill Pilkington of Long Beach, 34, was busted Friday on U S 101 south of Ukiah by CHP Officer Thomas Beals. Vern Duane Hoaglin, 18, of Dos Rios, was stopped on U S 101 in the north county by CHP Officer Michael Kostanecki. Gerald Leonard Harrington, 31, of Redwood Valley, was arrested Saturday by CHP Officer Terrence Moses on U S 101 at Pinecrest Drive. Clifford Thomas Johnston, 57, Ukiah, was taken Sunday near The Forks by Deputy Sheriff Craig Wayment, the sheriff's department's only weekend drunk driving arrest. Robert Lee Jobe, of San Pedro, was stopped Sunday on U S 101 near Ridgewood Summit by CHP Officer Tommy Stone.
