Terrorist bomb may have caused DC10 crash in Paris

A preliminary report on the Turkish Airlines DC10 crash suggests an explosion could have brought down the jet, killing 344 in aviation's worst disaster. Airport sources say the inquiry is led by Gilbert Dreyfus. Airline sources mention possible guerrilla links and prior plans to sabotage a London flight.

Voters pick councilmen tomorrow in Ukiah race

Ukiah voters go to the polls to choose two city councilmen from eight candidates with eight on the ballot after one withdrew. Turnout is expected around 40 percent of 5,013 registered voters, polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with unofficial results by 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Tragedy on Hoopa Reservation Shoots Ukiah Student

Sharon Marie Lockhart, 22, of Redwood Valley, died after a rifle discharged in a Hoopa cabin while she joined a hunting party with Axel Erickson. Suspect EH Leonard Smith, 19, held on manslaughter charges as investigation continues near Weitchpec, 60 miles northeast of Eureka. Smith claims accidental discharge. Funeral services set for Ukiah.

County supervisors agenda includes gas, dams and floods

The county Board meets Tuesday with an 11 a.m. session to review gasoline supply and a gas plan. It approved four 500 gallon storage tanks for emergency use, considers lifting January flood emergency, and will receive Corps of Engineers on Mill and McClure Creeks and a letter from Gov Reagan on Warm Springs Dam. Bids for the new juvenile hall school construction are due.

Mitchell Stans mistrial denied in Vesco probe case

Federal Judge Lee P. Gagliardi denied a mistrial in the Mitchell Stans case as defense arguments portrayed former Nixon figures John Mitchell and Maurice Stans as men of public service. They face charges over alleged influence aiming to hinder a Vesco investigation in exchange for a Vesco donation. The judge ruled opening statements did not warrant a mistrial and noted proper jury instructions. Subdivision violations filed on 46 parcels of Greenfield Ranch

The district attorney filed notices of subdivision violation on 46 parcels of the 5200 acre Greenfield Ranch northwest of Ukiah. The notices cloud titles and block building or health permits. Purchased in 1972 by Presa Investment Co of Santa Rosa, the land was divided into 200 acre parcels with undivided interests sold. The DA says the subdivisions must comply with the State Map Act and local land division ordinance, and no approvals were sought from planning bodies. Case under investigation. notices let buyers void contracts and seek damages within one year. Some parcels have up to ten purchasers. Ranch lies between Orr Springs Road and Uva Drive west of Highway 101.
