County planners approve subdivision maps and deny unusual camp plan

A 12 hour planning commission session approved two tentative subdivision maps southeast of Fort Bragg, including Johnson and Redwood Springs No. 4, both with conditions on water supply and bog dedication. An unusual camp proposal by Philip Sharples for a primitive 100 acre site near Mendocino was unanimously denied due to toilet facilities concerns. A mobile home park permit for Mark C. Clark on Comptche-Little River Road was approved with a requirement for a detailed plan prior to opening.

Jury awards bank $175 000 for land

A 12-member jury ruled the Bank of California trustees for the Westport Beach Company entitled to about 175 000 dollars for 77.6 acres taken by the state for a beach park and highway project east of Westport Landing Beach State Park. The verdict ends a four day condemnation trial with no severance pay awarded.

Lawsuit Filed Over Death Of Willits Man In 1971

San Francisco law firm seeks 500000 in a wrongful death suit in Superior Court on behalf of Rose, Frank and Helen Lawrence against Dr. Robert B. Smalley and others. They say neglect from 1966 to 1968 contributed to Frank Lawrence's death while treated for rheumatoid arthritis and seek funeral costs and related relief.

Truck Overturns on Highway 101 Injuring Two

A northbound pickup overturned on wet pavement near a private road south of Willits. Ben Shedd of Ukiah and Jon Shedd of Yuba City were injured and taken to Howard Memorial Hospital. Gary Beldin of Willits, the driver, was uninjured.

Deputy DA Williams Resigns to Start Private Practice

Burgess Williams 32 and deputy district attorney since October 1969 will resign to enter private practice. He will open a general law office at 106 N School Street by April 1. Williams earned a BA from the University of Colorado and a JD from Golden Gate. previously practiced at Demeo, Demeo, Foster and Waner.
