McCorquodale Critical After Masonite Dust Blast
Don McCorquodale, Masonite foreman, remained in critical condition after a Friday morning dust explosion in the A. O. Smith hopper. He suffered second degree burns over about 70 percent of his body, receiving treatment at Ukiah General and later St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco. Masonite officials suspect sealed beam lamp ignited dust, with burning residue possibly falling into the hopper during fire extinguishing. This was his first accident despite many years with Masonite, and the plant had logged over one million man hours without a lost-time injury as of last April.

Three Mendocino Men Booked For Drunk Driving
Three Mendocino County residents were booked at county jail over the weekend charged with drunk driving. Huey Arlis Speers, 35, of Ukiah, arrested at the 103 Club by CHP, also charged for lacking a license. Davis Dempsey White, 64, of Ukiah, arrested in Covelo Sunday by CHP for drunk driving. Gary Robert McGregor, 34, of Redwood Valley, booked Sunday after CHP stopped him on Highway 101, 28 miles north of Ukiah.
