Fifty-Five Attend Golf Clinic and Local League Games

Thirty-five juniors aged 1 to 17 attended the first free Wednesday golf clinic led by Pro Winston Howe at Okraine Municipal Golf Course. The clinics welcome any youth and will pause for the Fourth of July, resuming the following Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Also reported are Pony League results: Ford Gravel over Manneh and Sherrill 15-9, VFW over Palace Sports and Hobby Shop 10-6, Crawford over Rotary 12-5, and Colt League action with Masonite beating Pleasant View Dairy 7-1 and Ukiah Sporting Goods defeating Lakeport 5-4 in a thriller.

Gordon Cochrane Dies at 59 Hall of Fame Baseball Great

Gordon Mickey Cochrane, Hall of Fame catcher and former Detroit Tigers manager, died at Lake Forest Hospital at age 59. He signed with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1925 and spent nine seasons with the club before joining Detroit, where he excelled as catcher and later as manager, sparking pennant-winning teams in 1934 and 1935. The article notes health issues later in his career and a return to form in 1936.

Junior Golf Players Pick New Officers

Don Trones Jr winner of the third flight championship at Lincoln Park was elected president of the Ukieh Junior Golf Club. Ricky Moon was named vice president and Gary Shimmin secretary-treasurer. The club welcomes any under 13 player and another weekly tourney is set for Friday at 8 30 a.m.

Stirling Moss Visits Former Racing Stable

English racing ace Stirling Moss, just released from hospital after Easter crash injuries, visited his sponsor Rob Walker and the mechanics of his racing stable in Dorking England. He appeared in good spirits during a wheelchair tour of the yard.
