Four-county board forms regional manpower planning group
In Garberville a four county Manpower Planning Board was formed with Mendocino Lake Humboldt and Dela Norte counties represented. Interim chairman Wilfred Colegrove said the panel will advise state and federal agencies on manpower programs and how federal funds are spent, coordinating efforts under CAMPS. Programs to be planned include various federal funded initiatives.

Psychiatric screening of recruits abandoned
The Navy and Marine Corps abandoned recruit screening by psychiatrists as ineffective. A study of 11,000 sailors and 14,000 marines showed petty officers using a simple chart at recruiting stations could screen as well or better. The research at Point Loma found brief psychiatric exams added little predictive value compared with age education intelligence and standard tests.

Ukiah Man Booked After Robbery Charge
Ukiah resident Filbert Stanley Anderson, 24, was arrested by Ukiah police and charged with strongarmed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly striking John Hester with a chain and taking his medicine. Hester reported the attack at the police station Sunday evening, and Anderson was booked into the city jail minutes later.
