Ukiah To Host Area Little League Tournaments

Local Little League events kick off July 15 at Ukiah with four nightly games running through July 19. A second district tourney runs July 24–26, leading to Northern Area and District championships. Winners advance to Santa Rosa, Chico, Phoenix, Winnisport and beyond for regionals and world series. Ron Ford directs. meeting planned for North Little League leaders and parents.

Ukiah to Host Senior Little League Playoffs in July

The Ukiah City Council recreation directorate eyes Anton Stadium for Senior Little League Area playoffs in July, aiming to bring Willits Lakeport and Konocti players and families to Ukiah. Plans include North Ukiah area and District Little League events, a July 29 Pony League Sectional, and a July 12 Old Timers/Managers event at Anton Stadium.

Aaron Niekro Leads Braves Past Dodgers in NL West Showdown

Aaron Niekro earned his 12th win of the season as Atlanta beat Los Angeles 5-3, moving in front of the Dodgers in the NL Western race. Ruffing, Foxx’s all time record pursuit noted, while other NL results included Philadelphia over New York in 10, St. Louis sweeping Montres, Cincinnati over San Diego, Chicago defeating Pittsburgh, and Houston edging San Francisco. In the AL Detroit topped New York 6-1 for Mickey Lolich’s 9th win in 10 starts, Oakland downed Kansas City 5-1, Washington beat Baltimore 11-8, Seattle shut out Chicago 3-1, Minnesota edged California 3-2, and Boston split with Cleveland 3-1 and 3-7.

Motorcycles race at Ukiah Fairgrounds Friday night

A twilight program at Ukiah Fairgrounds features motorcycle scrambles and the Northern California Racing Association stock car and super modified races. A 7 p.m. time trials start and a 7:30 p.m. scramble kickoff, with open class bikes from 125 to 250 cc contesting 18 trophies. The CRA program follows the motorcycle events.
