The Kier Family Foundation sold 2700 acres of timber near Maficcester on the west slope of the Alder creek watershed to Cobbs Timber Company of Portland for $485,000. The deed covers all timber of all sizes and kinds. The Cobbs Timber Company is a 37 California corporation led by Jay Cobbs, with Claude Johns Sr and family as local representatives and attorneys. Negotiations began last fall and closed in December after title clearing. Logged timber is anticipated. another local mill showed interest. Headquarters of the Kier Foundation are in Kansas.
