In remote Calaveras County Marge Mobley, a young widow, uses old family recipes to build a new business from her Mountain Ranch kitchen. Her Der Wurst Haus sells pre mixed spice kits and a sausage making system while publishing a compact cookbook of Mother Lode country dishes.
Hoedowners schedule two Saturdays with a third Saturday Hoedown at Mendocino State Hospital Auditorium featuring guest caller Skip Graham from 8:30 to midnight. Clearlake Squares host the next fourth Saturday Hoedown at Lucerne School 10th and Country Club Drive with George Dreier as guest caller. Prizes and refreshments planned. Promenaders hold Tuesday evening workshops at Frank Zeek School. Squares meet Friday at Lucerne School.
Soroptimists report a 3500 donation to community service this year as Miki Pardini informs club members at a luncheon. Miss Marcia Wiley, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Wiley of 105 Poules Court, announces engagement to Rick Cliff of Perry Georgia. Cliff, a 1967 Auburn University physics graduate and Phi Gamma Delta member, serves as a pilot instructor at Vance Air Force Base in Enid Oklahoma. The couple will marry September 3 at Phillips University in Enid in an evening ceremony conducted by students Monty Knoble and John Taylor.
Treppa becomes president of the Mendocino Lake Pomo Council with Tom Ramos as vice president and Dorene Mitchell as secretary treasurer. Under Treppa the council won a top parade award at Festival 72 with support from Georgia Pacific North State Nursery Jack Deshiell Hal Bennett Joe Bennett Paul Whiterock and others. Meetings are on the first Thursday each month at 407 S State Street and plans for American Day at Lake Mendocino in August are underway.

The Redwood Riders Gymkhana returns with high point winners to receive a saddle blanket and a new saddle in each age group. The event starts at 11 a.m. at the Redwood Riders Arena on East Road near the Redwood Valley Shopping Center. Sherry Severoni and Sarah Sprague were weekend high point winners in the 13 and under and 14 to 17 age groups, respectively, with fast events like California speed barrels and figure 8 stakes and games such as musical tires and ribbon races.

Report on 7th district conference and Mendocino Woodlands camp-out over Memorial Day weekend. State Grange Master Chester Deaver attended with wife and state committee chairs.
Ya-iswa-noh Camp Fire girls held an overnight camp-out with achievement beads awarded during an evening ceremony. Sister Yvette received a gift for her year of help to leader Joann Younie as the group camped in a pasture with two large tents.
