Thies and a girl with two men aged 26 and yenssold crossed the mine infested border into West Germany Thursday under fire from Communist border guards. West German customs officials reported the trio reached the West unhurt.
Two Ukiah high school graduates from the Class of 1966 were awarded Doyle scholarships to Santa Rosa Junior College. Joelean Rave Lane and Linda Louise Dixon, both 17, earned the awards based on scholastic merit. Joelean is president of Yoko Theta Rho and plans to transfer to Chico State. Linda plans to become an elementary school teacher after attending Humboldt State College.
Alfred M. Mills known as Little Al Mills died after heart surgery in UC Hospital San Francisco at 44. He lived on Clara Avenue Ukiah for six years worked as a shoe and uniform seller. Survived by widow Fern and children Suzette and Steven, brothers Joseph and Elsworth, sister Shirley Deneka, and his Illinois and Kentucky relatives. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. Eversole Mortuary with Rev. Clifford Ford officiating. Burial in Utah Cemetery.
Goodwill Industries will pick up in the Ukiah area on Tuesday. Donations can be brought to the Mendocino Van and Storage or to local churches. repairs and resale of donated articles create jobs and help handicapped people.
The People of California sue Anderson Valley Baptist and other defendants in Mendocino Superior Court to quiet plaintiff’s title to a described parcel. The summons directs appearance and answer within 30 days if served outside the county or 10 days within the county, warning of judgment for money or other relief if not answered. The court records a land description beginning at the northwest corner of a surveyed tract in Section 2 and 35, Township 13-14 North, Range 11 West, with parcels in Mount Diablo Base and Meridian, and dates to June 6, 1966, with Clerk Wood and Deputy Mary H. Hughes.
Dan Wayne Keithly, 17, of Ukiah, disappeared after a May 17 trip to a Drive-In theater with a female companion. He was last in the Millview area, driving a green 1959 Chevrolet Tudor with license DUS 183. Sheriff asks anyone with information to call 462-2951.
Barbra Armor daughter of Mrs Marjorie Armor of Hopland has been chosen as delegate to Girls State 2028 in Sacramento representing the Hopland American Legion Auxiliary Post 529. About 560 high schools will send delegates for a week of intensive training in Americanism and government.

Glendora California police arrested Lenore Cozad 38 on suspicion of drunken driving. She told officers not to forget her snake. A boat constrictor was found on the seat, which she said she used to rid her house of rats.
