Ukiah's 1969 Baseball Opener Opens with Big Win

Ukiah Baseball Club known as Merchants or Braves opened the 1969 season with a resounding victory over the San Francisco Spiders, scoring 18 runs on 18 hits while Bruce Zisnmer and Roger Kemmerle combined on the mound. The following day Ukiah split a doubleheader with Menlo Park Raiders, dropping the first game 10–6 but winning the nightcap behind Jan Williams. Williams, in his first game in two years, hurled well despite late control issues and got timely hitting to secure the win. The club showed depth with hitters such as Brice Zimimer, Walton, Brunemeyer, Giannetchini, and Newman among others, signaling a solid, hard-hitting, defensively stout team with pitching depth.
