Sanity hearings set for two murder cases in county
Superior Judge Timothy O'Brien appointed Dr. Waldo Cook to examine Andrea Evangeline Hernandez to decide if she can stand trial for the May 1973 murder of Manuel Vlahos. Two earlier doctors disagreed. Hernandez, 31, was confined to Patton state hospital last October after being deemed unfit. A restoration hearing for Steven Schultz, 21, charged with his father's July 1971 Albion murder, is slated for June 20 with an Atascadero psychiatrist sought to testify for the people.
