Laytonville Man Convicted in Apple Orchard Animal Attacks
Michael Allan Dunn, 33, of Laytonville was found guilty by a Superior Court jury on felony charges of maliciously maiming wounding and killing animals. The case stemmed from him firing a shotgun at horses and a jackass trespassing on March 15, killing two colts and a mare and wounding a jackass. The trial, before Superior Judge A B Broaddus, was prosecuted by Duncan James with Public Defender Joe Allen.

Frustrated hitchhiker injured on Highway 101 north of Lake Mendocino
Larry Wells, 18, of Willits, was treated at Mendocino Community Hospital for arm injuries after attempting to hitch a ride and leaning or jumping onto Highway 101. CHP cited him for being on the roadway. A camper driver stopped after a thud he heard, thinking Wells had struck the vehicle. Earlier, a minor injury crash and an overturned trailer loaded with fir boards were reported. a separate 11:05 p.m. incident involved Roy Totten, 35, of Ukiah, who ran off East Calpella Road and hit a tree with minor injuries.
