Thousands braved 90 degree heat to enjoy Festival 72 in Ukiah featuring prize winning floats bands and mounted units. The Mendo-Lake Pomo Indian Council float won top parade entry while Armijo High School of Fairfield captured sweepstakes in the band review with 26 participating schools from northern and central California.

Ukiah Student Dies by Suicide at County Yard
A 17 year old Ukiah junior at South Valley High School, Robert Louis Crossley, hanged himself with garden hose Saturday in the old county maintenance yard on Low Gap Road. Authorities found him Sunday morning hanging from a 15 foot high A frame with no note or evidence of foul play. Crossley was the son of Mr and Mrs George Crossley of Ukiah.

Tuesday is Election Day with polls 7 am to 8 pm for presidential and local races plus state and local propositions. City offices in Ukiah close as a holiday, county offices stay open, state offices closed, and Mendocino State Hospital staff may get the day off. Weekend of accidents marred Ukiah region with multiple injuries
Five injury accidents were reported by the Ukiah Highway Patrol over the weekend.
