Car plunges over bank in fatal crash near Willits
A young Elverta man, Bruce Lee Rand, died when his sports car left Highway 20 ten miles west of Willits and struck a tree after plunging 300 feet down an embankment. Passenger Kristen Wright, 23, of Pleasant Grove, sustained minor injuries. The CHP cited excessive speed for the curve as the cause.

Girl Drowns in Lake Mendocino Near Ukiah
Four year old Cheri Brown drowned at Lake Mendocino while her parents attended their five year old. The rescue effort by sheriff's underwater team located her body 25 feet off shore, about 30 feet from where last seen. Graveside services set for Tuesday at Ukiah Cemetery.
