North Ukiah faces Lakeport in a Wednesday 6 pm game at Lake County Fairgrounds Little League park with the winner advancing to face Napa Valley or Konocti Thursday. The Northern winner meets the Southern winner at Petaluma Saturday night in the next round.
South Ukiah battled North Ukiah in a tense Lakeport Little Tennue playoff, with Mike Heath leading off, Greg Alexander, Rick Simmons, and Tim Wann delivering key hits. North Ukiah capitalized on errors as Wann struck out seven in relief, while South Ukiah failed to produce the big blow late. SANTA ROSA Calif. UPI Inability to adapt to American style football cost soccer style kicker Ron Chesterton a job with the Oakland Raiders. Chesterton a 31 year old bank employee was invited to the AFL club prospect camp on a trial basis but was placed on waivers because he just couldn't adapt to the American game of football. He had played soccer in Britain but had never seen an American football game.
United Press International reports Koji Okano scored a knockout over Manfrello Alidala in Tokyo with a 137 percent note. Benito Ortiz of Bronx outpoints Jose Colon of Puerto Rico in New York. Art Hernandez of Omaha defeats former welterweight contender Jose Stable in Las Vegas by decision.
