Fireball Devours Hollow Tree Log Deck In Winds
A blaze at Hollow Tree log deck, near the Masonite plant, burned about 25 percent of the structure and up to 300000 dollars in losses. Fire Chief Al Bechtel said 40 million board feet were on site and heavy winds hindered hose access as crews fought the four hour blaze.

Fire on deck at plant fights night-long with aerials
Bechtel reported sparks from a deck fire blown by a northwesterly wind across the platform. No danger to Masonite’s plant as sparks blew toward the river. More than 100 men fought the blaze as two air tankers spread di ammonium phosphate to cool the deck before logs could be dragged apart. Fire Belles aided with coffee and sandwiches. Authorities from Ukiah to Willits provided ground support.

Grand Jury Indicts Conley in Ukiah double murder
William Conley Junior of Ukiah was indicted by a grand jury for two counts of murder in the double killing of Clifton and Elaine McCool outside their cabin.
