Northern Area baseball tourney opens at Lions Park

District 35 North Area Championship Little League tourney starts Thursday at 6 p.m. at Lions Park, with Napa Valley making its first Northern Area appearance after shifting from the Southern Area. Eight teams from Napa Valley, Round Valley, Ukiah, Konocti, Lakeport, and Rutherford fields compete in a double-elimination style.

Thornton Impresses In Beating Johnsgorn

Fresno based Irish Wayne Thornton, a top light heavyweight, debuted at heavyweight and defeated Alonzo Johnson of Chicago by knockout in the eighth round. Thornton floored Johnson in rounds four five and eight as the referee stopped the bout.

First Heavy Raider Workout Set Today
