Koufax Nears All Time Southpaw Strikeout Mark

Norm Nelson of Racine Wisconsin took advantage of Jim Hurtubise brake trouble on the 199th lap to win the 200 mile USAC late model stock car race at Wisconsin’s West Allis track. Nelson averaged 90.25 mph, with Hurtubise badly burned in last year’s crash noted. A J Foyt finished third in a 1965 Ford, fourth in a 1965 Dodge.

Giants All Star Mays Bruises After Plate Collision

Willie Mays left with a bruised hip after colliding with Phillies catcher Camilo Corrales on a play in Philadelphia. Mays said he felt fine and planned to play in the All Star game in Minneapolis Tuesday. Corrales suffered dizziness and a cheek bruise but was released after hospital checks.
