California Canning Pear Association offers pears at 175 a ton
The California Canning Pear Association offered its No 1 processing Bartlett pears to state canners at 175 per ton, with growers last year paid 115 per ton. Other grades priced at 173 per ton for Buerre Hardys and 140, 105 for dail and frost and strained food grade. Canners have until July 12 to reply. Weather and crop forecasts show reduced 1974 yields for Mendocino and Lake Counties after a poor growing season and rainstorms affecting disease risks.
