Ukiah City Grants 3.25 Percent Pay Hike for Workers

Ukiah city workers win a 3.25 percent total raise for 1976-77 with 2.5 percent hikes on July 1, 1976 and January 1, 1977 plus a 2.5 percent potential for 1977-78 tied to CPI. Health plan costs rise to 90 dollars and later to 100. Council approves memo with 4-1 vote, Feibusch opposed, mayor absent. Other moves include pay study, safety program, outside-weather gear, 24-hour fire shifts, and aviation restrictions at the airport.

Weather outlook for Northwestern California coastal to inland

Variable clouds advance across the north with mostly fall conditions to the south through Friday. Coastal areas will see low clouds and fog with local drizzle at night and in the early morning. Westerly winds up to 15 mph. Fort Bragg readings reach 54 to 65 degrees, Ukiah 54 and 85 were noted.

Mendocino College trustees push energy, water plans and budget

Trustees held a marathon session approving the Laughlin Way site EIR as reasonably complete and favoring the Redwood Valley campus. They authorized travel to Sacramento for energy research, adjusted staff salaries toward regional averages, considered a student health fee, refined an architectural contract, and eyed water supply priorities amid drought fears with a possible special water consultant. A preliminary 1976–77 budget forecast $2.20 million expenses and $2.33 million income with a $162,500 balance. Final hearings set for August 14.

Mars Viking I landing postponed again in Mars mission

NASA officials postponed the Viking I touchdown for a second time citing rough landing prospects. The new target is July 20 with an orbital trim maneuver planned to image a revised site about 200 miles west of the original zone in Chryse Planitia. Ground photos showed wide canyons and channels at the primary site, while the alternate may be a dune field with possible hazards.

Lakeport man killed in single vehicle crash. driver charged

A 22 year old Lakeport man died from injuries after a single vehicle crash west of Lakeport. The driver, 21 year old Terry Lynn Fields of Lakeport, was arrested on felony drunk driving charges. The incident occurred on the Lucerne cutoff at 9 30 p m when Fields lost control, striking a power pole. Perdue died at Ukiah General Hospital after transfer from Lakeside Hospital. The report is to be reviewed by the Lake County district attorney for vehicular manslaughter charges. Perdue is survived by his father Albert Perdue of Lakeport.

Queen Elizabeth Attends Embassies and Cathedral Dedication

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip began a Washington visit with dedication ceremonies at the New Zealand Embassy and the Washington Cathedral nave. A crowd cheered as the royals joined President and Mrs. Ford, with the Royal Marine Band playing. The queen later attended a White House dinner and reception at the British Embassy, after visiting Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial.

Bennett appoints timber advisory committee under tax reform act

William M. Bennett, vice chairman of the timber advisory board and chairman of the State Board of Equalization, announces a five member committee from timber counties, industry, and state agencies to study timber taxation. The board will oversee grading, measurement standards, and harvest value scheduling with deadlines through 1977.
