The county assessor informed supervisors that the 1964-65 assessment roll totals 81,682,110, a record high and up 1,375,920 from last year. Airplanes and solvent credits rise, with Ukiah and District 2 seeing the biggest gains. the public utility roll may edge up slightly, keeping the total near 97,241,930.
Miranda Enters not guilty plea in court to felony drunk driving following a Friday appearance in Justice Court. Judge Ired Goss set a July 16 preliminary hearing at 4 p.m. after CHP arrest for a collision that shoved a waiting car into a freight train at the Talmage road crossing injuring Warnell Diggs.

Dolores Radford, 24, recently returned from four years as a children's nurse in New York and Los Angeles, says American wives are awfully jealous and warns that speaking to the man of the house provokes venomous looks and danger, in Sheffield, England.
A 13 year old drove a jeep loaded with teens down private property hill near Redwood Valley. The vehicle rolled at least twice, injuring several passengers. Frank Dutra, unlicensed driver, is hospitalized with lacerations and contusions. Other teens treated and released. Patrol notes two additional Fourth of July weekend injuries in the Ukiah area.
Opie Hendricks of McKinleyville lost an 18 foot craft and its new engine when a high speed run at Lake Mendocino struck a beach on the east shore after dark. The boat sank with a hole in the hull, though the operator and friends recovered the vessel briefly before it went down again.
Ukiah Chamber of Commerce and the highway project study committee of the California State Chamber of Commerce will hold a joint, no host dinner and meeting tomorrow night at 6 30 at the House of Garner. The program will cover legislation and programs affecting state highways and federal aid secondary projects in California. United Press International reports a nation breaking its Fourth of July weekend death toll record with at least 4 traffic deaths from 6 p.m. local time to 11:59 p.m. Sunday. States reporting high fatalities include California with 16, Michigan 38, Texas 37, New York 28, Illinois 26, Ohio 21, and Pennsylvania 18.

California reached a new voting record in the latest primary, Secretary of State Frank M. Jordan announced after final tabulation. The state saw 71.94 percent turnout with 5,124,175 ballots cast from registered voters, including 109,337 absentee ballots. Mendocino County recorded 14,967 precinct votes and 441 absentees totaling 15,408 with a 77.71 percent turnout.
Northwestern California will be fair through Tuesday with morning coastal fog in the north and high fog along the coast at night. Daytime highs reach the low to mid 90s in inland locales, with Ukiah at 92 and Santa Rosa around 84 to 85. Coastal winds shift west to northwest at 12 to 24 knots, with cooler overnight lows.
An early dawn quake affected at least 10 states in central and western Mexico causing thousands to flee in night attire. No casualties were reported though buildings cracked and communications disrupted. Quakes occurred at 1:22 am with follow ups at 1:11 pm and 8:15 pm. power and telephone service briefly failed in parts of Mexico City.
Willits police arrested Fritz Bacci after he returned home to fetch a shotgun to confront Hell's Angels at a bar. He faced charges of drunkenness, exhibiting a firearm, and possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault, then posted own recognizance and set to appear July 9. A rodeo contestant, Larry E. Jordan of Petaluma, was hospitalized for a neck wound after a separate Hell's Angels clash. no weapon details or arrests were reported.

Across Georgia Florida Mississippi and Tennessee clashes between white and Black crowds erupted Sunday night. In Selma Alabama police used tear gas and night sticks to disperse a crowd of about 125 whites and six Black youths at a theater. In St Augustine Florida whites attacked Black fishermen with knives and chains. Near Lake Texarkana at Atlanta Texas about 90 Black beachgoers faced 175 whites. a white youth was shot in the foot and several Black individuals suffered pellet wounds. In Jackson Mississippi hotels integrated as the civil rights law entered its first weekend, and in Athens Tennessee 21 Black youths faced a white crowd. arrests and injuries followed.
Supervisors set 1 30 p m tomorrow to discuss social welfare and mental health services building requirements. State officials will outline latest minimum office and staff needs and criteria for potential state funds to finance new buildings or rental costs.
Gov. William Scranton announced by telephone that Dr. Milton Eisenhower will nominate him for the Republican presidential nomination at the San Francisco convention. The Johns Hopkins president spoke with Gen. Eisenhower, who approved, as Scranton pressed a whistle stop Illinois campaign seeking delegates amid Goldwater support.
US senator Barry Goldwater presses a compromise on civil rights to win full backing from Wisconsin and Ohio delegations ahead of the GOP convention. Scranton rejects the offer insisting the federal civil rights law be constitutional. Milton Eisenhower may place Scranton’s name in nomination. Miller says Goldwater has the votes to nominate unless drastic changes occur.
In San Francisco William J. Eaton reports a platform clash within the Republican Party as backers of Scranton push to affirm the constitutionality of the new civil rights law while Goldwater supporters object and prefer a brief pledge. Senator Hugh Scott signals a possible fight on the convention floor if the platform does not affirm the law. The dispute centers on the Supreme Court's role as final arbiter of constitutionality.
