Moscow reports say Nixon and Brezhnev closed their seven day summit with limited pacts on underground nuclear tests, defense missiles, and a plan to renegotiate the 1972 SALT accord. Kissinger warned that failure to solve strategic superiority could invite unimaginable nuclear risk by 1977.

Ukiah man held on murder charges in mother’s shooting
A 24-year-old Ukiah man, Tommy Stout, is in custody on murder charges after reporting his mother Maria Stout, 65, was shot at their Milani Drive home. Deputies arrived around 5 a.m. to find her dead from a head wound caused by a .45 revolver. The incident, which occurred between 4 and 5 a.m., left only the two at home. The suspect told investigators the gun discharged accidentally and the case remains under investigation. Zimmerman's Mortuary handling arrangements.
