Willits marks its 47th Frontier Days with a two day rodeo at E Commercial Street and a 5 30 p m street parade on Tuesday. Tickets cost 250 for adults 150 for kids under 12. A street dance follows at 9 p m on N Main Street.
William E. Puenta, 34, Tracy, is jailed in Lake County today on suspicion of raping a 54-year-old Lucerne woman at 3 a.m. arrest followed screams heard by neighbors or passers-by. A Lake County coroner report notes a Mexican alien from Kuslow Ranch Upper Lake died when his car veered off Soda Bay road and hit a tree before 4 a.m. Sunday. Relative in Marysville contacted. next of kin not yet notified.
Hopland man and 17 year old juvenile were arrested by Ukiah police on burglary suspicions and charged with battery on officers Ken Budrow and Frank Tucker during booking. Budrow chased the suspects after a reported home window break at 659 Leslie. The juvenile was seized. 33 year old Dennis Lee Smith helped restrain and was also taken into custody. Both officers were unharmed. Burglary charges unlikely. battery charges filed. The juvenile faces delinquency by reason of malicious mischief and resisting arrest.
Pleasant weather is forecast for Independence Day but highways may jam with more than 10 million vehicles on the road, gas shortages along Interstate 5 through Orange County to San Diego, and limited campground access in Southern California. Fire danger is high and all grass area fireworks are banned. The Rose Bowl Fireworks Spectacular marks a key display, along with events at Santa Monica Pier, Marina del Rey, Griffith Park, Echo Park and 30 recreation centers.
Inland areas of Northwestern California will stay fair and slightly warmer through Tuesday while patchy fog or low clouds affect the coast tonight and tomorrow morning. Fort Bragg will see a low of 52 and a high of 70, Ukiah a low of 58 and a high of 101.

Mendocino County residents can apply as Big Brothers to fatherless boys in Ukiah Willits Hopland area including Potter Valley Redwood Valley and Talmage. Applicants undergo interviews while boys and guardians are evaluated. Matches are based on shared interests and are overseen by a volunteer counselor with weekly four hour commitments for at least one year.
County supervisors plan to adjourn tomorrow at 1 p.m. after a loaded meeting schedule. At 10:05 a.m. a long delayed decision on a minimum security rehabilitation center will be considered, followed by a welfare report and commodity distribution discussion at 10:15. The 1973-74 proposed county budget will be introduced by County Administrator Al Bertrami between 10:30 and noon.
