Wildcats B team edges Trojans in conference tilt

The Wildcats beat the Trojans 68 to 25 as Antily's Bs claimed first place. Clough Rich Pelo and others led with steady scoring while Uki tied the Nets’ court advantage in both halves. Ed Graziano's shots kept the team in the game though Ukiati's Bs were held to low output.

Bob Brown Leads Realty to 68 47 Win in Valley League

Bob Brown career night with 31 points powers W A Realty past Anton's five to keep title hopes alive. Roy Paget Jim Garrity and Rich Huckins contribute on offense and boards as Brown adds a dozen in the third period. Also St Mary's Church beats the Methodists 42 32 in the Church League with Steve Casperson scoring 24 for St Mary's.

Chico Coach Dies While Hunting for Boy in Snow

WILLOWS UP Gus Manolls 34 Chico State football coach collapsed and died Tuesday while hunting in Mendocino National Forest for 12 year old Delchia Warschmidt. He died in Grindotone Canyon area after a difficult rescue. Manolls, native of Sacramento, played football at UC Berkeley and served as an assistant to Lynn Waldorf before teaching at Yuba JC in Meriville 1950.

Denver AP reports Lawrence T Shaw resigns as Air Force Academy head football coach. Three assistants complete tours and depart. New coach to be chosen while current staff says shifts were coincidental and Shaw needed more time for personal matters.

Gowan Nets Two Big Series in Uriah Bowling Showdown

Bob Gowan posted a 538 series in Uriah Bowling league at Cloverdale's Deltone Lanes and added a 601 series last Thursday in a Deltone league. Matt Callan Jr led all individuals with 556, while John Finnegan posted 550 and a 208 game. Mark King Garage surged to a 2402 team series winning three of four from Johnnie's Market, which tied for second with Warehouse Sales after a 2-2 split with Redwood Tree. Flavorland delivered the night's top team score with 2432 as they beat Montgomery Ward 3-1, and Galli Service held first place after a 2-2 split with Ukiah Steel Mill Supply.

Campanella Improving After Near Fatal Crash

Glen Cove New York Henry Logeman reports Dodgers catcher Roy Campanella is on the road to recovery less than 94 hours after a car accident. The hospital bulletin says paralysis unchanged but overall condition encouraging and he remains on the danger list.
