Compatible land use approved for agricultural preserves

Ukiah officials approved allowing compatible recreational use of lands in agricultural preserves with income from recreation limited to the same total gross as agricultural income. The board, after debate, set the 50 percent income cap and amended the contract to include rentable buildings under recreation, with Avila voting against.

Burglaries on coast under investigation

Sunday thefts and burglaries across Mendocino County engage sheriff reports. A car stolen by a resident of Ocean View Boys Home in Ft. Bragg remains unrecovered. Items stolen include rifles, a radio, a TV, a butane tank and other valuables valued around $340. Other weekend losses include an antique mirror, dishes, a medical book at Bonnie Workman’s Ft. Bragg summer home valued about $100. A chainsaw from Sylvester Rodgers’ Ft. Bragg property, and minor thefts including .22 ammo, a knife and beer from Les Seymour’s Sherwood Road residence near Willits totaling about $16.

Woman Arrested on Ukiah Bad Checks Warrant

Dorothea Osborn was arrested in Calaveras County on a Ukiah Justice Court warrant charging her with issuing bad checks in the Ukiah area. She has four prior convictions for passing bad checks and is held in county jail pending arraignment on the felony charge. The femur or thigh bone is noted as the longest bone in the body.

Gunshot reports prompt Ukiah police inquiry

Early this morning residents heard sounds of gunfire in the Low Gap Road area near Ukiah. Mrs. Kearns reported to police but officers found no source. Over the weekend three shots were reported on Empire Drive with bullets found in a residence. A deputy and city officer also heard shots in the northern city area. A bullet may have been fired from a passing vehicle at Arrowwood Convalescent Hospital late Sunday or early Monday.

Venire drawn for Grand Jury in Mendocino County

A venire of 30 residents is drawn for the 1971 Mendocino County Grand Jury, to be selected tomorrow at 1 30 p m in Dept 1 of Superior Court. Judge A B Broaddus will supervise the drawing of 19 names. Names include Alan Auger Frank Branson Jane Ford Marsha George Lawrence Heise Claude Killen Ada Mitchell Beth Richardson Ruth Engstrom Mildred Sanchez E H Schlicten and other Ukiah residents.

Ukiah police detained a Ukiah high school student yesterday afternoon after school authorities reported he was creating a disturbance and using obscene language. The boy was taken to Juvenile hall.

Garbage rate increase jolts Ukiah board

County facilities within Ukiah saw garbage rates rise from 99 to 158.50 dollars per month. County administrator Al Beltrami reported the change to supervisors as information. Audience grumbled but the item was filed without comment.

Moller rites Thursday in Potter Valley

Albert Harry Moller of Potter Valley died yesterday at 84 in a local hospital. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Potter Valley Cemetery. He was a 17 year resident, member of Forest Hill Masonic Lodge Potter Valley Grange and Loyal Order of Moose. Survivors include daughter Margaret Leard nephew Lionel Murphy three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Arrangements by Eversole Mortuary. Donations preferred to Olga Moller Memorial Park firm.

Juvenile Suspected of Shoplifting Detained by Value Giant

Don Carlson Value Giant manager reported a juvenile suspected of shoplifting to police yesterday afternoon. The juvenile was detained by store personnel, taken into custody, and placed in Juvenile Hall.

Fort Bragg to hold public hearing on general plan

Fort Bragg City Council schedules a public hearing for February 8 on the city and Mendocino County planning area general plan. The panel also approved one way designations for Harold Park and Lincoln Streets and authorized tearing down the Galli Store landmark. Building permit fee proposals were referred to a future resolution.
