Ford unveils 394.2 billion budget plan with major shifts

President Ford proposed a fiscal 1977 budget of 394.2 billion dollars featuring higher Social Security payroll taxes, wage and tax cuts, defense growth to 101.1 billion, and a plan to require some federal aid recipients to contribute more. He endorsed a wartime welfare czar idea and warned deficits will rise as reforms tilt toward poverty relief.

Mendocino County To Join State In HEW Overpayment Suit

Mendocino County will join 50 other counties and the state in a federal suit to recover social service funds withheld by HEW. District attorney to file on county’s behalf after HEW audits claim records from July 1968 to September 1971. Denny notes HEW argues 50 percent administrative cost reimbursement instead of 75 percent, with $7900 unpaid to the county.

County seeks federal planning grants for coastal and economic programs

The board directs the administrative office to file two grant applications for federal social and economic planning funds. One funds coast land use planning aligned with the state coastal plan, the other supports an economic and manpower plan to attract compatible industry and boost local skills. Final approval and submission dates are Feb 3 and Apr 26 respectively.

Mendocino planning meeting discusses ranch site and code

The Mendocino Community College Yokayo Ranch site will be reviewed by the county planning commission tomorrow at the courthouse, with 11 10 a m sessions in supervisors chambers and 11 30 a m discussion of an industrial and commercial site development and architectural review code. At 1 30 p m a report on Sun Oil Co use permit compliance for geothermal exploration will be heard. Potter County adopts urgent zoning to align with General Plan

Potter Valley receives an urgency ordinance restricting subdivisions, mobile homes, and new building permits until the General Plan amendment takes full effect. The measure, urged by Supervisor Jim Eddie, aims to bridge the six month gap before new zoning is written. The four month term may extend eight months with public hearings. Local residents and officials debated timing and impact as the plan spans from Lake County line to the ridge and Cold Creek to Thomas Creek.

Lake County weighs Cobb Valley geothermal appeal decision

The Lake County board reopened hearings on The Friends of Cobb appeal to the McCulloch Cluse permit as opponents condemn geothermal plans.
