PG&E to complete 600-foot bypass and restore gas to area

PG&E maintenance crews worked under difficult conditions to bypass a shattered main gas line and restore service to the central county by 2 PM. 125 North Bay technicians from San Francisco and the East Bay would reconnect meters and relight pilots as gas flowed again, with full service expected by midnight.

Mendocino County to declare state of emergency over flood damage

County supervisors were to meet to officially declare a state of emergency in Mendocino County to access state and federal disaster funds. Al Beltrami and Budge Campbell urged the measure after reports of extensive road closures from slides and high water.

Willits council hears storm damage reports

Willits council hears storm damage reports as PG&E credits a check valve for gas safety while a large slide near Hopland disrupts pipe by bypass work. Water line damage and a 100 foot span require repairs. City plans a watch, evacuee readiness, and standby generator use. Council also backs Mendocino Community College siting and approves a police car bid. Israeli and Egyptian chiefs sign disengagement pact at Cairo road post

United Press International reports that the chiefs of staff of Israel and Egypt met at Kilometer 101 on the Cairo Suez road and signed an agreement to disengage their forces on the Suez Canal. Kissinger said he would pursue a similar pact between Israel and Syria.

York Ranch site withdrawn from college campus search

York Ranch landowners asked Mendocino College to remove their site from consideration citing cost and better prospects at Redwood Valley and Willits locations. A letter from Jack Cox to Supt. DeVries says withdrawal should speed trustees’ decision while keeping York Ranch open for future discussion if Redwood Valley fails to meet requirements.

Pyerre joins county planning commission

Richard Pyerre of Fort Bragg assumed a seat on the county planning commission replacing resigning Ed Stoddard. The panel, operating with minimal members, approved Arthur Kruckman s use permit for a mobile home on Robinson Creek Road but denied Donald Jenkins four homes in a planned development near Ukiah.
