Ukiah Rally Tops Santa Rosa in Home Court Win

Ukiah roared back from an early deficit to beat Santa Rosa on its home court, closing the gap to seven in the fourth period. Jerry Pugh led Ukiah with consistent drives and a perfect 3-for-3 at the line, aiding Ukiah’s 94-81 victory. Craig Changler paced Ukiah with 16 and Steve Welch added 14 as Ukiah dominated in varsity action. Willits suffered a rough night as Ukiah’s defense held to seven within the final period and Willits managed only 21 in any single period.

Ring Czar Sought. Clay Asks for New Boxing Commissioner

NEW YORK (UPI) Representative John Vaxick Tunney says he will ask Congress for a national boxing commissioner and a heavyweight champion. Tunney, cheered at the Boxing Writers Association dinner, calls for a federal commission to unify regulations across states. Willie Pastrano received the Edw. Neil memorial plaque as fighter of the year for two title defenses.

Riverside Grand Prix winner dominates amid crash injuries

William Leiser dies. longtime sports editor in San Francisco

Final rites planned for William Leiser a veteran sports editor in San Francisco who led football writers groups and served on the Examiner staff until 1956. He helped raise funds for Stanford stadium efforts, headed the SF Oakland Guild pension committee, and is survived by wife Lyle Billie Leiser. Funeral Wednesday in California with burial at Golden Gate National Cemetery.

Ellis Wins Crosby National Pro Am Title In Playoff

San Diego reports that West Cantwell A Z Ellis edged Bill Casper in a sudden death playoff to win the 1965 Bing Crosby National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach. Ellis birdied the 18th and 17th with a key 45 foot putt on the final hole after Casper led earlier, securing first place money of 4850 dollars.
