Flooded Ukiah Str eets, Heavy Rains Continue Worsening
Torrential rain drenched Ukiah through the night and into the morning leaving streets muddy and many homes flooded. The 6 : reading by the Ukiah fire department watchers reported 4.78 inches from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 11 a.m. today, with totals over six inches since Tuesday. Highways and utilities were disrupted as mudslides closed roads including Highland Drive, W Mill, and several routes around the eastern city. Phone service outages affected 1 000 customers south of Gobbi with restoration expected by noon today and other services not until Jan 20. Several schools were closed and evacuation watch was issued for Hopland and Hearst Eden Valley areas.

Willits base for fire bombers gains state backing
