Ford outlines broad tax cuts to combat recession and energy costs

President Ford told Congress the state of the union is not good and urged a permanent 16.6 billion dollar annual tax cut plus a 12 billion dollar rebate to spur growth. He warned of higher living costs from energy measures, proposed oil windfall taxes, and aims to raise energy prices while reducing inflation and dependency on foreign oil by 1985.

County Uses 549000 For CETA Jobs In Mendocino County

Mendocino County will use 549000 for three CETA programs to create about 200 short term jobs by June while the federal funds run through June. Title II allocates 540000 for Mendocino with a July 1 to June 30 cycle and a plan due January 31. Ed Huddleston oversees placement with a goal to place half into permanent work and prioritize veterans, youth, 45 plus unemployed, farm workers, and minorities.

County CETA programs push for meaningful jobs and placement

County leaders discuss Title I and Title II CETA funds aimed at low income and disadvantaged residents. 85 enrollees include 45 adults and 40 youths with 15 more expected. Programs emphasize job training, school attendance, and private-sector placement, with coordination urged between the manpower council and the Economic Development Board.

Ukiah teachers urge Bill of Rights with 41 pages of demands

About 164 Ukiah Unified teachers through spokesman David Bliss present a 41 page Certificated Employe Council Bill of Rights to the Ukiah Unified board. They seek higher pay aligned with state averages, smaller class sizes, 50 minutes daily for planning, more music and art specialists, expanded counseling, and an 20 member Effective Schools Committee to guide curriculum and policy.

Recall election ordered for Indian Resources group board

The board instructed the former IRCD directors to call a recall election to be monitored by Indian Legal Services with Jim Stoup assisting. The vote was 3-1 with absent supervisor Ernie Banker. Stoup notes lack of legal IRCD membership and proposes a three day registration to form a new TRC board.
