Jack Pearson, former Bevan-Pearson Moving & Storage owner and Mendocino County Republican central committee chairman, was named Citizen of the Year at the Greater Ukiah Chamber of Commerce installation dinner. Pearson, native of Washington, moved to Ukiah in 1964 and has led multiple community efforts including industrial development and library projects.

Students protest daylight saving time at Ukiah high
More than 300 freshmen and sophomores cut classes Friday in a walkout protesting the board of education decision to shift school start up by one hour for daylight saving time. Principal Bill Tully and staff persuaded many back to class. several petitions circulated for the Jan. 22 board meeting. Juniors and seniors have indicated representation at the meeting.

Hoaglen found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in stabbing
Charlotte Fern Hoaglen was found guilty by a Superior Court jury of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of her cousin Lloyd Dennis Hoagsen 31 after a September confrontation at a family home.
