The Greater Ukiah Chamber of Commerce will name the Outstanding Citizen of 1973 at its installation dinner on Saturday January 12 at the Lake Mendocino clubhouse. Weekend storm claims third Lake victim
Lake County coroner reports the third death from the weekend storm, an elderly woman found on her Loch Lomond steps amid 1 to 2 feet of snow. Artie L. Alexander, 73, was near her home when she slipped and died after last contact Sunday. Two others, Kim Ray Williams, 72, and Verla F. Williams, 57, were found dead 300 feet from their trailer in snow near Clearlake Highlands. Deputies say they struggled to return to their trailer after a cafe visit and froze. Roads remain open but chains are required on Lakeport Road and Highway 175 near the summit due to icing.
