Incumbents, challengers line up for Ukiah Unified seats

One incumbent and seven challengers file for seven Ukiah Unified board seats. Several incumbents have not filed or are undecided amid filings deadline at 5 p.m. Friday January 7 in the Elections office. Names include Margaret Hoaglen seeking re election in Trustee Area South. others in North Central and District areas have submitted or expressed interest. some candidates have not yet filed papers as reform plans unfold.

New Mendocino justice court judges sworn in

Six of nine new attorney judges took oath to fill Mendocino County Justice Courts. Oaths given in Superior Court by County Clerk Viola Richardson with Judges Timothy O'Brien and Arthur B Broaddus presiding. Several incumbents and new supervisors sworn in. changes expand civil and unlawful detainer powers across the lower courts.

Azevedo challenges Fort Bragg election in Fourth district

Fort Bragg faced a legal challenge after Jack Azevedo sought to void the November 6 vote that placed John Cimolino as Fourth district supervisor. Judge A B Broaddus set a show cause hearing for January 21, with Azevedo must prove alleged ballot delays and unequal rights claims.

Two Die When Van Struck Logging Truck Near Laytonville

A Santa Ana family, M liss Jane Leonard 24 and her son Charles Leonard III 4, were killed when their van collided head on with a northbound logging truck driven by Jack G Crogan 43. The van occupants Charles Leonard Jr 24 and Nichol Leonard 2 were in Hillside Hospital in Ukiah in good condition. Highway Patrol said the southbound van skidded on a slick mix of rain sleet and snow on Highway 101 one mile south of Spy Rock Road.

Lake Mendocino Rebounds After Drawdown Doldrums End

Lake Mendocino water level climbs to 723.6 feet from a 737 foot conservation mark as inflow from the East Fork Russian River rises to 150 cfs aided by recent storms. Outflow cuts to 20 cfs after Sonoma County Water Agency and North County Water District declare a drought emergency and urge reduced releases from Coyote Dam. Authorities seek board and governor approval while aiming to reach 74,500 acre feet in Mendocino and 130,000 acre feet combined storage. Low rainfall and prior heavy drawdowns left the lake near 700 feet, with ramps out and water sports restricted until Pillsbury releases helped rebound.
