Grand Jury urges county master plan and sales tax aid

The 1973 Grand Jury recommends forming a county building master plan and a county counsel, maintaining Mendocino Community Hospital, and backing a statewide sales tax for schools. It urges outside consultants for future county buildings, patient care on the south coast, and equal raises for elected officials. Snowstorm cripples Lake Mendocino area power grid

Snow began in two counties after forecasts failed to predict the storm. PG&E crews from Sonoma County rushed to restore outages from Ukiah to Calpella and north Willits while Lakeport Big Valley Kelseyville Buckingham and Cobb Mountain faced widespread outages and frozen roads. Schools closed in Lakeport Round Valley and Calpella as crews labored to reconnect lines amid heavy snowfall and wind. The UPI forecast called for clearing tonight with showers possible tomorrow.

Simpson to speak for city at college site meeting

Ukiah Mayor Jack Simpson will represent the City of Ukiah at Mendocino Community College District Board of Trustees session to discuss final site selection for a permanent campus. The council authorized Simpson at a short Wednesday night meeting. the board may review York Ranch or Redwood Valley options along with a Willits site near Fort Bragg Highway 20.

Open space element to be reconsidered by county board

The county board will reconsider the two part open space conservation element after the planning commission reviews it again. The commission sent the December 7 document to the board, which Dec 12 limited provisions to state and federal lands, and a Sacramento submission was made before the Dec 31 deadline. No public hearing is required.
