All Boat Owners Must Now Get New Registration

Mendocino County Assessor Webb Brown warns all boat owners must renew registrations by the 1957 deadline. Expired certificates by December 31 require a mailed renewal to W L Brown Ukiah with no registration fee, but a valid certificate must be carried and the bow must display the permanent number. In 1957 Mendocino County registered about 1600 boats, mostly small craft. ad valorem tax applies but no registration fee.

Carmen Basilio Named Fighter of Year by Writers

Carmen Basilio, the middleweight champion who dethroned Ray Robinson in a lion-hearted 1957 performance, was named boxer of the year for 1957 by the National Boxing Association in its first 1958 ratings.
