Nixon signs 55 mph speed limit measure nationwide

President Nixon signed a bill to force states to set a 55 mile per hour maximum on all highways within 60 days or risk losing federal highway funds. The plan aims to curb fuel use by about 200 thousand barrels daily and will stay in effect until mid 1975 unless energy shortages end sooner.

Hopland Indians sue to stop BIA benefits denial

Hopland Rancheria members led by Eddie Knight filed in U S District Court seeking to block the Bureau of Indian Affairs from treating Hopland and others as non Indians and to restore scholarships and other benefits. The suit challenges termination under the 1958 Rancheria Act citing failure to install a water system and seeks hearings before any inclusion in termination rolls. Hearing set Friday on Ukiah GP plant

A Friday 11 30 a m hearing at the county courthouse before the planning commission will discuss GP s plan to build a highly automated resin binding plant east of N State Street and Darth of the Masonite plant near Ukiah The facility would employ about 30 people mostly maintenance and technical staff and supply resin binding material for GP plants in northern California GP already operates resin formaldehyde plants at Coos Bay and Albany Oregon.

Ukiah Sees Freezing Temperatures Hit 22 Degrees

Ukiah officials record a low of 22 at around 5 a.m., a new cold year low since July 1. Temperatures at the Ukiah Airport range from 22.5 at 5 a.m. to 23.7 at 8 a.m with a forecast for cloudy skies, possible rain and snow above 4500 feet overnight.
