Infant dies in collision en route home from hospital

Mr and Mrs Robert S Harder of Gualala recover from injuries after a Saturday morning highway crash two miles north of Albion. Their five day old daughter Jennie died and 10 year old Judy Harder was injured. Speedy Transport of Stockton truck crossing the road caused the fatal impact. Driver Ira R Goodale Jr cited for wrong side of road and excessive speed.

State Calls Bids On Road Jobs In California

SACRAMENTO The Division of Highways will advertise bids on road projects in Mendocino and Humbokit Counties. Mendocino plans a 69 foot reinforced concrete slab bridge over Little River on State Sign Route 1 near Van Damme State Park with 55 000 budgeted. Humbokit plans structures and approaches between 8 mile and 2 1/2 miles north of Ar cala on U S 101 and U S 299 with 448 000 budgeted and a 155 foot reinforced concrete slab included.

Mrs Otis Snow of 3 Oak Knoll Road narrowly escaped serious burns when flames gutted the master's bedroom at 8 40 a m today causing heavy smoke and $2000 to $3000 in damage to the house Fire Chief Albert Bechtel said the fire started near the bed and the room and contents were ruined Mrs Snow was treated for singed hair and face and her 5 year old son escaped injury The Ukiah Fire Department was also called to an earlier morning blaze at 2 19 a m when a gas water heater at the W A Keele home 410 Cypress Street flared igniting a wall behind it and the bathroom walls were damaged

Calpella residents protest closing of Moore Street bridge

About 45 Calpella residents met to protest the Moore Street bridge closure by Mendocino County. A joint bridge and citizens committee seeks input for the March 2 county hearing at the courthouse and plans to hire Kasch and Cook to represent Calpella in the fight.

The House Un-American Activities Committee summoned two United Electrical Workers officials for questioning at its first year public hearing. John T. Massed Choirs Concert Planned in Ukiah Next Week

Five of Ukiah churches rehearse for a massed concert to be held Tuesday March 8 at Ukiah Union High School auditorium. Dr. William W. Norton directs the project, illness prevents his attendance.
