Amin bars all Americans from leaving Uganda

Carter pledges to protect Americans in Uganda

President Carter vowed to do whatever is necessary to save American lives in Uganda. White House spokesman Jody Powell rejected Idi Amin's claim that 5,000 U.S. Marines were ready to invade, noting Ugandan assurances that about 175 citizens could leave safely.

McClintock Wins Ukiah Lions Student Speech Contest

Peter McClintock, a 16 year old Ukiah High junior, won the Ukiah Lions Club contest for the third straight year and advances to zone competition. Runners up were Louis Albert Jr. and James Pratt. The topic is Government of the people by the people fact or fiction.
