Ukiah Wrestler Keith Leland Earns Near State Crown

In Stockton at the North Coast Section wrestling championships Ukiah’s Keith Leland reached the 194 pound final, losing 5-3 to Art Webb of Oakdale after an unbeaten season. Webb faced fatigue from three early matches while Leland fought through strong foes including Bob Cole and Fred Handley. Kinman’s surprise unlimited title and Novato’s overall team win highlighted a day of close battles and notable upsets.

San Francisco Warriors visit Civic Auditorium tonight to rebound from a 129-122 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Jeff Mullins led SF with 37 points. Kings edge Seals 4 3 as Irvine clinches win in Oakland

Los Angeles Kings beat the Oakland Seals 4 3 at Coliseum Arena to end a five game skid. Ted Irvine scored the decisive goal at 7 26 of the third period after Ted Hampson had added his 20th and 21st goals. Eddie Joyal Dale Rolfe and Iain Flett opened the scoring for the Kings while Carol Vadnais tied it for the Seals. The night also featured a 9 0 Rangers win over the Bruins at Madison Square Garden with Ed Giacomin yielding nine goals.

Oaks facing Chaparrals after first Eastern defeat this season

Young halves world indoor two mile record at San Diego meet

George Young, 31, a Casa Grande High School teacher, timed 8:27.2 to tie the world indoor two mile mark at the San Diego Indoor Games. He led Doug Wiebe by nearly a half lap and earned outstanding athlete honors after winning his 17th straight indoor race.
