SEATO Diplomats Move to Close Rift Over Formosa

Damages Awarded In Injury Suit Over Highway Collision

Irene Struble won $2901.73 in a superior court personal injury suit against Lila Hall Shirley. Judge Hale McCawen apportioned $2500 general damages, $230 lost earnings, $139.73 medical, and $38 travel expenses after a no jury trial. The August 7, 1953 collision occurred one mile north of Ukiah on Highway 101.

One Applicant Filed for Ukiah Justice Court Judge

Fred D. Goss, Ukiah attorney admitted in 1935, is the sole applicant for the Ukiah justice court judgeship to be vacated April 4 by Judge W. S. Van Dyke after 18 years. The Board of Supervisors will announce the appointment on March 7 at 3 p.m.

Albany May Want Man in County Jail

A tentative held by Albany New York has been placed on a Fort Bragg man serving a six month term in the county jail for driving while intoxicated and for having no driver's license. John Reagan Boyer, 36, a logger, was sentenced last Friday in Fort Bragg justice court. The Albany case details were not learned.

Bad Checks Repaid By Redwood Valley Mother

Mrs Josephine Whaley pleaded guilty to petty theft in Ukiah justice court after cashing three bad checks totaling 75 dollars at the Purity store and Montgomery Ward to buy food and clothing for her five children. She was placed on probation and made restitution plus court costs. She was returned from Chowchilla.

Chandler Released From California Mental Ward

LATE FLASHES LA JOLLA California Raymond Chandler 66 a famed mystery writer was released from a psychopathic ward at County Hospital after police took him there following an apparent suicide attempt. Friends said he was later taken to a Chuhe Vista sanitarium where he was reported responding to treatment. In Missouri a four engine tanker refueling plane crashed after takeoff from Sedalia Base killing several crew members including four from California. Two occupants parachuted to safety. In Bonn Germany Communist rioters clashed with police in the capital as West Germany debated ratification of the Paris arms treaty and the Branco Germain Law.

Bauer Rites Await Daughter's Arrival From Fla

George Bauer of Covelo Mendocino County pioneer died Wednesday at Howard Memorial Hospital Willits after illness. He came to Covelo in 1893 and earlier ran a general store then a stock ranch. Carl Mak Named Marin County Manager for PG&E

Carl C. Mak, longtime Pacific Gas & Electric Company manager, is promoted to Marin district manager with headquarters in San Rafael and will assume duties after March 15.
