At Baltimore-Washington International, a hijack attempt ended in the deaths of a Delta copilot, a security agent, and the hijacker, with a pilot critically wounded. Eight passengers escaped unharmed as an explosive device in the suspect’s attache case was disarmed after the gunfight. The copilot Fred Jones, 32, of Dallas died. pilot Reese Lofton of Fort Worth was hospitalized in critical condition. security agent Neil Ramsburg of Howard County was killed. A stewardess was injured while helping passengers to safety. The hijacker, a heavyset white man about 43, fled into the plane and was killed during the struggle.

Two robberies probed in Ukiah early Friday
Police investigate two strong-arm robberies reported within 25 minutes in Ukiah. At 12 13 a m Dorman Brown said a man in Manor Inn parking lot demanded his wallet and fled. Stabbing Victim Suspect Kills Self In Willits Tragedy
San Francisco man Jose Ernest Madrid, 31, was stabbed in the ribs during a Wednesday night scuffle with Leonard Constantine Pash, 29, who later died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Willits Sherwood Hills Estates home. Madrid was treated at Mendocino Community Hospital and later transferred for further care.
